Castasegna at the other end of Val Bregaglia near the Italian border is quite a unique microcosm. This village with barely 200 inhabitants is near Europe's largest chestnut forest, at the crossroads of several scientific, artistic, cultural and historic sites. Some of these date back many centuries, others are contemporary and point towards the future.
An intimate 19th century family saga speaks of the liberal vigour of the then newly born Swiss Confederation. The extraordinarily concise new building created by famous contemporary architects replicates the neoclassic formal language of a star architect of the «Gründerzeit» (founding epoch). A think tank and academic meeting place serve to demonstrate the subsistence of the spirit that penetrates the historical building; a sign of its extraordinary builders and first dwellers.
